Some useful information for parents and carers

We have been informed by one of the school governors that when a new car is purchased and modified for a child with special needs you can claim the VAT back on the car thus saving a considerable amount of money!

Also, 'Seein' a local company based in Corbridge that provide protective wear for children and adults have explained that VAT can be claimed back on purchases for children with special needs.

If you have any useful information that will be beneficial to parents and carers alike please get in touch with us and we will share the information via the website.

Many thnaks

A Big thank you to Sainsburys

We would like to say a big thank you to Sainsburys for purchasing some new toys for the children to play on.  The 'creepie crawlies' have gone down a treat with the children and they all look forward to playtime so that they have an opportunity to zoom around the big yard.

Thank you so very much!

Rashmi Wahi visits Gibside School

Rasmi Wahi visited our school just over a week ago, coming from our partner school in Tamana in India where she is the Headteacher.  We enjoyed taking part in yoga sessions with Rashmi and also learning about India through looking at photographs and information presented by Rashmi on the interactive whiteboard during our Good News assembly.  You can find out more aboutTamana by looking at the Tamana school website http://www.tamana.org.

Tanzania Coffee Afternoon

emanuel.jpgA huge Thankyou to parents, friends and staff who supported our Coffee afternoon to raise funds for the Korongoni Unit in Tanzania. We received lots of donations for both the raffle and cake stall and everyone was very generous. The afternoon alone raised an amazing £250 which, together with our previous collection and donations from both school fund and FOGS, totals around about £500 ! The staff travelling to work in the school, Adele, Jo, Lesley and Sue will be taking this money with them and establishing what the school needs, then asking John from Development Direct to source and purchase items locally.

The date of our visit is getting closer and as well as excitement we are all feeling quite nervous ... but can't wait to meet the pupils including Emanuel in this photograph !

Korongoni Unit, Tanzania

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Picture 001.jpg

Korongoni Unit is attached to a school in Moshi in Tanzania. It has 20 pupils with learning difficulties, and as such is very unusual as most children with special needs in Tanzania don't go to school. Four of our staff have the wonderful opportunity to go and work in the unit for a week and share teaching methods between both schools.
